How do I create a bootable Linux CD from a bootable magazine DVD with Linux on it and other things?

My poor little Sony VAIO 1CF will only boot from CD and all the Linux software, these days, seems to come on DVD. Please don't suggest downloading it from the web as it looks far too complicated. Please also don't suggest buying it. Many thanks.

Reply:If you are using a DVD from Linux Format (out of the UK) they give instructions in the magazine and probably on the DVD on how to setup a CD from the DVD. Linux Magazine (also out of Europe) may provide the same.
Reply:All that you have to do is Browse your Magazine DVD and go to the folder where you find the .iso file of your DVD Linux Distro. Copy** that to your local machine. Then, using a CD burning utility burn the Linux CD*.





* Remember to specify Burn Image in CD burning utility.





**Check the size of the iso file copied to your local machine. Because, if that exceeds 700MB then CD is/would be short of storage space. In that case the iso is wrightly burned on to DVD and then you need to try out weired things like breaking the iso into parts and burning it onto multiple CD's.
Reply:If it's on a dvd it should auto detect it anyway their is no need to take it off the dvd to put on another disc mine worked fine when i tried it mate.
Reply:The standard CD size is 700mb,therefore any Linux ISO which you require to boot as a live cd must be that size or under.I would suggest that if your magazine copy is on DVD it may well exceed 700mb.visit: http://www.thelivecdlist.com.,for further information regarding the size of your particular distro.If the size of the distro on the DVD is infact 700mb or less, one would extract the ISO using a program like Magic ISO then re burn to cd. good luck!!
