What is the difference between LINUX and WINDOWS?

I am thinking of seting up my home computer with LINUX.

Is it safer than WINDOWS?

What programs will I be able to install?

What are the pros and cons of either OS?

What is the difference between LINUX and WINDOWS?
windows is easy to understand ,but it is vulnerable to attacks and it is costly.but Linux is secure and hard to understand.it is free and can be modified according to your need if u know how to.

usually u can install any software on windows but only few are supported by Linux.in future there will be more applications available on linux due do its free availability.
Reply:Windows is easy and Linux is difficult. Windows is limited, Linux is unlimited. IF you are the type that likes a challenge, then there are several good distributions, but I would set your machine up to dual boot so you can use windows when you need to. Safety in Linux CAN be better but again it is not simple to ensure. So ask yourself if you are willing to dedicate yourself to leaving the world of Microsoft.
